Ever since moving to Gainesville for college, I’ve been fascinated with watching the sunrise. I am originally from Miami, so the sunrise is quite difficult to watch while skyscrapers and apartment buildings interrupt the skyline. Of course, you can drive around the city and find a good spot, but there is a chance you’ll miss the sunrise on the way there. In Miami, it’s inevitable to be late.
In Gainesville, on the other hand, the beautiful naturesque landscapes easily allow the sunrise to make its debut.
With my group of friends, on a chilly late October day, I was able to see the fog rise, the birds wake up and the gradient colors of the sun paint the blue sky. We visited an observation deck and took some fun pictures with the gorgeous scenery. Then, as the temperatures rose, we went to a state park where we saw a deer on the way to the trail site. We ate some scones and croissants. Like silly girls, we forgot to bring bug spray so we spent the walk jumping around and swatting the air. I’d like to point out that we are all from Miami, and so we are rookies when it comes to being prepared for hiking. One of my friends even wore sandals. Sandals. They eventually broke on our way back to the car.
Nonetheless, the adventure was worth the bugs, broken shoes and big humidity suffering hair. We got quality photos out of this, a story to tell and memories to remember.
Till next time,
